Structural Adaptations
Pygmy Marmosets are very small in size. In fact, they are the world smallest monkey! Their small size allows them to hide easily among the leaves of the trees that they live in. The brown color of their fur allows them to camouflage themselves when hiding in the trees. Speed is another very important key to their survival. If a Pygmy Marmoset were trying to escape an attack, it would swing through the vines and branches of trees to escape the predator. They can jump a distance of up to 5 meters (16 feet)! Their five fingers have claws which dig into the trunks of trees to allow them to feed easily. The Pygmy Marmoset has very sharp lower teeth that create holes in the trees. These holes contain the food that the Pygmy Marmosets eat.
